Global Asset Manager, Fidelity International, Leads on Workplace & Community Menstrual Health Support in Hong Kong

Team members share the positive impact supporting menstrual health has had in the Fidelity International workplace

Background

In 2024, Fidelity International launched free period products across their Hong Kong office washrooms, choosing organic cotton pads with plastic-free wrappers from LUÜNA — our period product brand — upholding ESG commitments by avoiding plastic-heavy traditional products.

After a successful product rollout in washrooms, Fidelity International deepened their commitment to building open and stigma-free spaces by joining the Good Period Alliance, providing employee education, and supporting our programs to tackle period poverty in Hong Kong, where 1 in 3 women have been unable to afford period care and 91% of girls have missed school due to menstruation (The Zubin Foundation survey, 2022).

Sam Coco, Director, Global Information Security & Chair for Hong Kong CSR Committee at Fidelity International, shares:

“Supporting menstrual health is no different from backing mental health or parental leave. It's about removing barriers for people to thrive at work.”

The Challenge

As heard in the video above, employees shared that being caught without period products during the workday created unnecessary stress, distraction, and sometimes unplanned absences.

This reflects our own research, which found that 89% of employees have missed work to get period products in an emergency, with 29% losing more than an hour and 5% missing an entire day due to experiences such as leaking onto clothes.

At Fidelity International, the team also recognized how stigma showed up in daily workplace routines. Employees described hiding products on the way to the washroom to avoid embarrassment.

While hiding products is a widely accepted norm, this is just one sign of the stigma that persists — a stigma that keeps symptoms hidden, drives presenteeism, and leaves employees without the health support they need to truly thrive.

The Solution

We built on the positive response to providing period care by expanding into education, employee engagement, and communications, ensuring that team members of all genders were engaged.

As shared by Jasmine Chung, Senior Manager, Talent & Development, Fidelity International:

“One of the most powerful moments was seeing male colleagues actively participate and openly show genuine support. It reinforces a vital point: menstruation isn’t just a women’s issue — it’s a human issue. Conversations like these foster lasting change, creating more inclusive, understanding workplaces.”
